On one of my old favourite Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) shows "Wiretap" Jonathan Goldstein (who got is start as co-producer of This American Life) aired a Valentines special last year about dating. It showcased a story of two singles going on a "Scientist for Love" blind date, literally, a date where you smell, hear and touch speed people without seeing them.
