Werner Herzog on images, TV, and shoes

Werner Herzog Eats his shoe - because Earl Morris finished his film Gates of Heaven - a bet Herzog made with Morris to help encourage him to finish a film while he was in grad school. I had imaged this film would be a laborious endeavor in chewing, but the eating was a staged event which focused on Herzog, filmmaking and Morris. At one point Herzog talks about how horrible it is to be a filmmaker as they deal with projections which are not matter but it is necessary because our civilization lacks adequate images - you hear this over an image of a 1980's egg McMuffin and some cigarette ads. -Per Herzog -We should be so lucky to do something as foolish and important as eating our shoes and making films. - Digest, Chew, and add lots of condiments and garlic. Sound good to me...

Received a copy of this as a gift years ago because it reminded them of my work. Use to make stuff with food, camp, and sex. Feeling nostalgic for the a trucker with a big heart, loud slurps of noodles, and Yakuza. Food levels the b-movie archetype and perhaps most types. This is one of the craziest movies I have ever seen. It makes me wish I could have an experience as intense as some of these eating scenes. I think the audio of this film is what takes it over the edge. McCarthy work is at the same volume of visceral.
